A SNOWFLAKE TURNING INTO AN AVALANCHE
Like a snowflake turning into an avalanche, Zeynep's heartbeats
were getting louder every second. She was going to present her two-year thesis
to the committee behind the door. "How should I walk in?" she thought
to herself. Then her mother's words came into her mind... "Walkin confidently, smiling and saying hello." Before
entering, she closed her eyes, took a deep breath and said, "Let's hope
for the best..." and knocked on the door of the room. She hesitated with
the sound of "Please come in!" coming from inside and said
"Hello, my professors..." with a sincere smile on her face. Most of
the professors on the board knew her well, which put her at ease. Even though
she tried to look calm, her hands were frozen.
Zeynep would be graduating from the university if her thesis was accepted. She would no longer be a student, and start earning money. This thought also made her excited. A inner voice was reassuring her, "You just start, the rest will come..." While another voice was scaring her, "What if they don't like it and reject...". But whether she passed or failed, she had tried all she could. At that moment, the chairman of the board looked at her with a smile and said, ""Hello Zeynep!"
These words, these smiling faces, made Zeynep feel a sense of
sweet relief. She suddenly calmed down, handed out her thesis file. She walked
to the center of the room and confidently started her presentation. Everything
flew like water after that. Now it was over, a huge burden had been removed
from her shoulders. She was deprived of sleep and put her social life on hold.
Sometimes she had to suffer the whims of her professors. She even felt hopeless
at one point. She thought this thesis would never finish. But now she was proud
of herself. She had the desire to smile and say hello to everyone.
People sometimes underestimate the importance of a small gesture like saying hello. But most changes start with small actions. People sometimes ignore
the garbage on the ground, but many things change when they pick it up. A child
who sees it learns not to throw garbage on the ground. Or he realizes the wrong
he has done.
The little movements I do to build muscle make me want to do more.
It's that little move that brings that positive result. People often
underestimate or ignore those small moves. "But what the hell, I don't
need to do it..." But a lake is formed with the little drops. Although
we use this saying only when we are saving money, in fact, all the savings in
our lives are made with small but continuous steps.
Saying hello to someone you don't like can be the start of
repairing relationships.
The
same thing can lead to a negative outcome. A small mistake today can turn out
badly. A one-time lie to that customer. Hiding a small defect in your product.
Or that slice of cake you ate when you were trying to lose weight. Even if your
inner voice says, "Nothing will be wrong from once!", these things
always design the next phase. So that little piece of cake becomes a bite that
pierces the sack.
That inner voice! If we are going to do something useful, it makes
us fear or despise it. But if we are going to do something harmful, it says, "
Nevermind! What can happen from such a small amount?"
But if we know that everything small in this life leads to
something bigger, then we can start to look at life differently. Because a
small change in behavior can open different doors in your life. Just like a small snowflake turning into an
avalanche.
